Thoughts on keeping a personal journal.....

Keeping a daily log while you are going through treatment can be very helpful.  You can set up your journal however you feel comfortable.  I used a notebook and wrote on the inside cover what I wanted to be recorded, such as medications and tests.  That way, in case I was unable to do it for myself, my family and friends would fill it in for me.  Now, I have a record of what tests were done and who visited while I was undergoing treatment. This was helpful even after treatment, so I could look back and see how far I had come over the course of my treatment.

Here are some ideas for records to keep in your journal that I set up in my journals.

These are only my ideas, so set your journal up according to your own needs or desires.

   Tests
  •     Date of test
  •     Time of test
  •     How long did the test take?
  •     Name of test being done
  •     Reason for test
  •     Preparations for the test
  •     Results of the test
  •     Side effects or negative experiences from the  test

     Medication

  •     What is the medication?
  •     Date you started taking the medication
  •     What is the dosage?
  •     Reason for taking medication
  •     Side effects with this medication
It is important to keep track of all medications that are prescribed and any changes in your medications.

  Personal Stuff

  • Keep track of visitors or people you spoke to on the phone.
  • Keep track of what the doctor said every day, good or bad.
  • You may just want to keep track of general stuff that we normally take for granted.
  • Did you eat solid food, get a shower, walk around, or stay in bed?
These are just suggestions that may help you to set up your personal
journal that will help you through your diagnosis and treatment.
